The power of the heart

We have all heard the expression “follow your heart”. There is good reason for this. The energy field of the heart is so much more powerful than that of the brain. It extends up to, and in many cases further than, 15 feet beyond the body. The heart is a sensory organ that guides our decision making ability. Might it then, be important to consider its health and well being and bring it into balance everyday. I think so right?!!

In order to create the day that you want, it is essential that we combine a clear intention with an elevated emotion. In other words, we must have the brain on board by defining our intention and the heart on board with the emotion and a connection to our higher selves.

The Heart is so much more than a pump that circulates your blood. The heart and the brain have more nerve connections to each other than any other system in the body. It is also of extreme interest to note that there are more nerve pathways from the heart to the brain than from the brain to the heart. The human heart has an intelligence all of its own!!. In utero, the heart begins beating before the brain is even formed while the electrical activity of the brain doesn’t even begin until around the fifth or sixth week*

The institute of HeartMath empowers individuals, families, groups and organizations to enhance their life experiences using tools that enable them to better recognize and access their intuitive insight and heart intelligence. ...

They encourage practicing  a Heart coherence exercise every day and throughout the day.

So, what is Heart Coherence?

Heart coherence begins with the steady, coherent drumbeat of the heart through cultivating, practicing, and sustaining elevated emotions including gratitude, appreciation, thankfulness, inspiration, freedom, kindness, selflessness, compassion, love, and joy.

How to, step-by-step

 1.      Simply place either your hands, or just simply your attention, on your heart.. Here we are aiming for  the heart center rather than just the physical heart so the ideal spot is in front of the chest, at the sternum. Connect to the heart.

 2.      Begin to breath slow deep breaths imagining that the breath is breathing in and out at the heart. Slow the breath down to about 5 seconds for the in breath and 5 seconds for the out breath. If this is too slow or too fast, breathe at the pace that is comfortable for you. Remember you are breathing easily and deeply so listen to the body.

 3.      This step is possibly the most important….call to mind a person, pet, place or event or memory that makes you feel wonderful. Call it to mind and remember the feeling that it or they give you. Even just a flicker is enough to grow this so no need to try really hard. Often, simply applying step 1 and 2 shifts your energy enough that you have easier access to these uplifting, nourishing emotions of love, acceptance, appreciation, gratitude and joy

 4.      Practice this breath first thing in the morning and any time throughout the day when you need an energy or mood boost

•          Deep Inner Peace. ...

•          Decreased Stress. ...

•          Increased Energy & Vitality. ...

•          Enhanced Creativity. ...

•          Emotional Intelligence & Mastery. ...

•          Greater Resilience.
